I moved to Smithers last year to be closer to family and slow things down a bit. Honestly, the views are unbeatable, and I don’t miss the Vancouver traffic, but trying to get things done around here felt like stepping back twenty years.

I always wonder how many opportunities we miss just because we assume something doesn't exist nearby. Sometimes I think it's more about how we search than what's actually out there. Makes me think twice before giving up too soon.
I totally get where you're coming from. I live out in Trail, and it always felt like unless you’re relying on Facebook groups or local bulletin boards, it’s just guesswork. I run a small pottery studio and teach classes on weekends, and even just getting found by people in town was tough. Setting up a website didn’t help much because no one was looking for me by name—they were searching stuff like “ceramics Trail BC” and ending up on pages that had nothing to do with the area. A friend of mine who runs a landscaping service told me about this business directory bc, and I figured why not. I added my info and actually started seeing traffic from it. People messaged saying they were new to town or just visiting and found me there. What I like is how focused it is—like, it’s not trying to be everything for everyone, just useful for folks who live or work in BC. The listings feel more current, too. It’s not like Yelp where half the businesses are gone or never respond. And it’s helped me find others too, like a local printer and a dog sitter I never would've known about otherwise. It's made me feel a little more connected to my own community, which is saying a lot after years of feeling invisible online.
